  • Should Tall Guys SQUAT?

Should Tall Guys Squat? We get asked this question a lot because we are both well over 6 feet tall. The simple answer is that yes, everyone should squat, it doesn't matter your height, weight, or background. When we talk about tall guys squatting we are usually specifically talking about longer leg individuals. First off the simple fact is that with longer femurs (legs) your hips will have to travel back farther to keep a stable base of support. This will usually put the torso in a more bent position and challenge the "upright squat" position. Most taller guys will have to hinge more in their squat and that's okay. What it really comes down to is no matter how tall you are, you should squat to the depth that your mobility allows. A lot of taller people have limited hip mobility for whateve...

Bracing is something that can automatically get your back and spine in a good, neutral position. Excessive lordosis or kyphosis will not be possible with a well braced core. In Bracing we set our hips, organize our spine, and then create intra abdominal pressure. We give 3 steps to achieve this. 1. Squeeze the Glutes (Butt) 2. Set shoulders and Rib Cage down 3. Take a deep breathe into the diaphragm or belly Doing this will achieve stability throughout your core, bracing your abs and spine to do whatever activity you choose to do. This will help solve pelvic tilt issues as well. With a good braced...

knee's out is a common cue used in the squat and is very useful for those having trouble sitting their hips down between their legs. The trouble arises when the weight is put on the outside of the feet and the contact between ground and big toe is lost. This is usually due to a motor control problem OR ankle mobility. Before anything else, try planting your big toe in the ground and then creating external rotation of the hip. This stretch can release tightness from the adductors and hip flexors which will allow you to perform better. We take a look at the stretch in terms of opening the hips to squat better. It's easy to see if one hip holds more tightness than the other and you can give that hip extra attention by manipulating your torso to stretch deep into that hip. We also go over a common error people make in this stretch by letting anterior pelvic tilt come into the position. this sets the hips in a bad position and will lose the effects of the stretch. To stay away from this bad position - 1. tighten the butt 2. push bottom of pel...
